iPhone 17 series will support the latest Qi2.2 standard, the first batch of wireless charging modules are listed
June 30, 2025
The iPhone 17 series is expected to be officially released in mid-September 2025. Traditionally, Apple will hold a new product launch conference on the Tuesday of the second week of September, and 2025 is no exception.
Looking back at the history of Apple's wireless charging, since the introduction of Qi (i.e. Qi 1.2 EPP supports 15W) with the iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone X in 2017, the iPhone series has always had a built-in Qi wireless charging receiver, compatible with all kinds of Qi-certified chargers on the market. Currently, the iPhone 16 series already supports the Qi2 (v2.1) standard and supports up to 25W magnetic wireless fast charging through MagSafe.
Given that the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC Wireless Charging Alliance) will launch the Qi2.2 specification for 25W scenarios at the end of 2024, it is expected that the iPhone 17 will be the first in the Apple camp to pass the Qi2.2 certification, continue the 25W magnetic alignment fast charging experience, and further optimize thermal management and energy efficiency.
Qi 2.2
In December 2024, the WPC Wireless Charging Alliance mentioned the Qi specification version 2.2 in its logo guidelines, and for the first time defined the "Qi2 25W" and "Qi2 Ready 25W" dual logos for high-power scenarios, marking the official release of Qi2.2. Compared with the previous version, Qi2.2 directly supports 25W magnetic alignment charging through specification upgrades, and puts forward stricter requirements on the thermal performance of the module, requiring that the surface temperature can still be controlled below 40 °C in the 25W output scenario to balance the charging rate and energy efficiency.

Based on the Qi2.2 specification, major manufacturers are accelerating the launch of a new generation of wireless charging modules. The 25W high power support also greatly improves the wireless charging experience of mobile phones. Next, the charging head network will introduce the wireless charging modules that various companies have launched and are expected to support/be compatible with Qi2.2.
